Fishing at Loch Aweside Forest Cabins

Loch Awe is a famous Ferox destination for fishing in Scotland, with anglersFree fishing, Loch Awe, Kilchurn castle, Ferox Trout coming from far and wide in search of the legendary Ferox Brown Trout and monster pike that inhabit its deep waters. The largest Brown Trout caught in the British Isles at 31lb & 12 oz was landed at Loch Awe in 2002; the two previous British records also came from the loch and it is widely believed that it is only a matter of time before a 40lb fish is taken.

Ron Greer of the exclusive Trout fishing club “FEROX 85 GROUP” says of Loch Awe ….

“….There has never been any doubt in the dreams and aspirations of the Ferox 85 Group that Loch Awe is the monarch of Scotland’s trout lochs. Reality has vindicated these dreams with at least 5 wild Ferox over 30lbs since the turn of the century and the official record broken several times. The 40lb Ferox is out there. Dream on and be relentless in your dream.”

There are many tails of monster pike in Loch Awe and numbers of Salmon, Sea Trout and Atlantic Char are steadily growing. There are also some fine Perch and Rainbow Trout (fish farm escapees) to be had.  The lochs reputation was further enhanced by being chosen as the venue for the World Fly Fishing Championships in 2009 and many fishermen, experts and novices alike, return to its bountiful waters year after year. The wider area also offers great opportunities for anglers, with Loch Avich, the rivers Avich, Orchy and Awe and countless hill lochans providing excellent, great value sport.
